We’re a family-run business, and everything we do is for the love of coffee. Our founder, Robert, wants to share that passion and knowledge with you, to guide you on your journey from coffee enthusiast to a coffee connoisseur.

Our Inception

Heritage Coffee was founded in 2016 by a group of passionate individuals in Clerkenwell in London, who saw an opportunity to celebrate and promote only the finest speciality coffees from around the world. Our team includes eCommerce & import/export expert Robert; our Master Roaster, Penelope; our roastery partners and our carefully selected list of bean suppliers.

We source beans only from farms that adhere to our own ethical policies (see our ‘What we Stand For‘ page). Our bean suppliers knows which field every individual bag off coffee beans is sourced from.

Women coffee producers make up on average around 20% of landowners, but do 70% of the harvesting. We’re committed to ensuring that the female workforce we buy from are treated fairly.

Premium Quality

Our coffee is better than Fairtrade. We pay quality-based premiums, because the coffee we buy is of such high quality which results in a price which is far higher than the Fairtrade minimum.

Organic

‘Organic’ is a big topic in the world of speciality coffee. What makes it complicated is that lots of coffee is farmed organically and upholds the very highest ecological standards, but it is not automatically certified as organic.

Our Mission?

From the farmer to the beans, the roasting to the brewing, to our service, our relationship with our neighbourhood, and our impact on the environment, we are always striving for perfection. The green coffee we seek must meet our high standards, and we roast and prepare this coffee with the utmost respect for those who grew it.

Heritage Coffee Roastery pays farmers varying rates based on the score given to the coffee beans upon evaluation, but always at least 50-100% above the Fairtrade contract price. Investing back in the farms allows the famers to ensure they meet our best practice standards.

Passionate about Social Welfare & Sustainability

When we visit farms, it’s paramount to us that we discuss the welfare, social and environmental conditions in place. We reward exceptional quality with prices well above the Fairtrade minimum pricing. Third-party accreditation is an important part of the coffee world and involves certification schemes such as Organic, Fairtrade or RainforestAlliance. We only work with both certified coffee growers and additionaly coffee farmers who achieve our own high ethical standards.
